#BACKtoWORK: Why your COMPANY wants YOU back at work...

God love the BBC... and the fact which says great data comes from outside of the US. This comes to us from the UK...

The people that absolutely loved working from home over the lockdown are now all having the same frustrating thought: “If I was just as productive doing things remotely, why is my boss demanding I come back to the office?” For that answer, you need to learn a new word.

Presenteeism is the act of sitting at your desk just to appear dedicated.

It doesn’t matter if your browser is on Facebook or that you’ve logged more phone time than work, all that matters is you’re there. Before the pandemic, 80% of workers said presenteeism was happening in their workplace and it was actually getting worse.

But bosses like seeing you at work, even if you’re not working. For some reason, they don’t seem to trust the numbers and only tend to believe what they see. This probably accounts for why studies show telecommuting workers experience slower salary growth compared to those who put in the face time. The president of Global Workplace Analytics Kate Lister says bosses simply have “a mentality of ‘butts in seats’ [and] “don’t trust employees to work untethered.”
