Madison Beer’s forthcoming debut album Life Support means much more to her than just a record. The 21-year-old “Baby” songstress, who rose to fame at age 12 thanks to Justin Bieber’s support, shared with Ryan Seacrest on-air on Wednesday, November 25, recording the album helped get her out of bed every morning.
“I felt it was really important to make that the title because I was going through a really tough time mentally and it was kind of like the only thing that was giving me hope and pushing me to get out of bed in the morning,” Madison admitted. “So, it was genuinely like life support for me.”
The songstress has been vocal about mental health struggles and shared in August 2020 that she’d celebrated “one year clean of self-harm.” At the time, she shared on IG Stories, "no one around me rlly [sic] knew i was struggling when i was. i hid not only my self harm, but my pain from the world."
Now, she’s using her voice and music to help others.
“I think there’s a lot of stigma around mental health,” she shared with Seacrest. “It’s sad we allow ourselves to judge people based off of things so surface like Instagram and social media. … We’re all putting on a facade and a front at all times and I’m trying to be more open about that kind of stuff. … I think it's really important. … I got signed and recognized when I was 12 and was kind of put on a pedestal that then over time felt more like a chopping block.”
This holiday season, Madison is hoping the whole world gets cut a break, too.
“My only wish is that the world goes back to normal,” she reflected.
