Last year lawmakers allowed bars and restaurants to sell alcoholic drinks to-go with food take out orders to help the businesses make some extra money during the pandemic. The new policy was so popular many wanted it to stay.

So Sen. Hanna M. Gallo and Rep. Jacquelyn Baginski sponsored a bill to continue it allow the practice through March 1, 2022. Yesterday the General Assembly passed the bill that will allow any Class B liquor license holders and brewpubs to sell up to two 750 ml bottles of wine, 72 ounces of a mixed-wine drinks, 144 ounces of beer, and mixed drinks with no more than nine ounces of distilled spirits, to-go. That bill will now head to the governor’s desk for him to sign into law.

Senator Gallo (D-Dist. 27, Cranston, West Warwick) said the bill would help struggling local restaurants. She said, “This simple extension of take-out drinks will help them stay afloat, bring in a little more revenue, and keep paying their employees and supporting our economy.”
