Petition Wants Christopher Columbus Statue Replaced With Chef Boyardee!

As protesters vandalize and tear down statues of Christopher Columbus around the U.S., a new online petition on Change.org has been started suggesting that the Cleveland City Council replace a statue of Christopher Columbus with one of Chef Boyardee! Yup, the guy on the can of ravioli. He as a real person, Ettore (Hector) Boiardi, who came to America on May 9, 1914, at the age of 16. He opened his first restaurant, Il Giardino d'Italia ("The Garden of Italy") in Cleveland, Ohio in 1926, and it became very popular. Non-Italians had trouble pronouncing his name, so when he started selling his pasta products, he listed his name on the can as "Chef Boy-Ar-Dee."

Well some folks in Cleveland want to put up a new statue of the Italian-American chef to replace Christopher Columbus, and they believe it should happen because Columbus is “a racist monster who initiated the genocide against indigenous Americans.” So far 2,600 people have signed the petition, and they're hoping to get 5,000, however it's doubtful the Cleveland City Council will go along with the idea. Hey, well at least they're not trying to take Chef Boyardee off the cans of spaghetti!
